But nationwide or long-distance buses might have more restrictive dog policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Local bus policies &#8211; most buses allow small dogs only<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Policies for local buses can vary significantly between cities and provinces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>small dogs:<\/strong> allowed if they can fit in a carrier that can fit on your lap<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>large dogs:<\/strong> policies may vary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For larger dogs, the rules on local buses can be more restrictive. Some transit systems like the ones in Calgary, Alberta, <a href=\"https:\/\/syderoad.com\/public-transit-dog-rules-toronto-gta\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"7153\">Toronto, Ontario<\/a> and Mississauga, Ontario allow larger dogs on board during off-peak hours, provided they are leashed and well-behaved. But this means that during the hot summer months when ventilation is poor &#8211; dogs are not allowed to travel by cargo.
