Are dogs allowed on beaches in Toronto?

Toronto has many beaches for you to enjoy all season long. There are 10 beaches in Toronto stretching from Scarborough Bluffs to Mississauga, to the Centre Islands. But which beaches in Toronto allow dogs? The answer is actually… all of them are! But, there are a few caveats.

All Toronto beaches are dog-friendly but…

During the hot summer months, most Toronto beaches do not allow dogs on the beach, even if they are leashed.

But now you’re probably asking me “Wait a minute Maria, I’m confused. So are dogs not allowed on beaches in Toronto?”

Dogs are allowed on all Toronto beaches, but only during the winter time and on a leash. Thanks to Toronto’s by-laws, all beaches in Toronto allow dogs on a leash between November 1 to March 31. But better yet, there are also a few beaches that allow dogs off-leash year-round too.

Be aware of fines
You can be fined up to $365 CAD for letting your dog run off-leash outside of designated off-leash areas. I haven’t seen this fine strictly enforced while at the beaches in Toronto, but do your due diligence and stick with the rules as best as you can for the safety and fun of everyone on the beach.

Conclusion

While all Toronto beaches allow dogs during the winter, only a few beaches like Cherry Beach, and Kew-Balmy Beach allow dogs on the beach year-round.
